Actually, I hope they’ll inspire me. I’m ready to get back to writing.

I wrote a novel (The Evolution of the Gospelettes, to be published in November by Fireside Industries, which you can order here), and it took a long time. I mean a loooonnng time. Like—I started it in the early 1990s. It’s now 2024. That long.

All that time, I was working, raising a family, writing, revising, and dreaming dreamy dreams of being a writer. Now the countdown to the Publication Date has begun, with all the necessary promotions and such. But I want to continue to create. I want to remember that dreamlike state of writing, creating characters and putting them in interesting, sometimes difficult situations, and seeing what they’re made of, what they’ll do. At times, it is like night-dreaming: you’re making it up, but you’re not quite sure how or where it all came from. You step into that river . . . maybe you’re holding on to a branch or the dock at first, a little scared, or maybe you’re paddling upstream in grim determination . . . but then you let go and you go with the flow . . . and eventually you get somewhere, and you look up and think, Huh, how did that happen?

I think something similar happens to other creatives—musicians, painters, actors, and so forth—and I’m interested in exploring that experience with you, my fellow creative person. Because, yes, I do believe you are creative too, whatever your art is, whether you’re creating a book or a song or a painting or a business or a meal or a first date or a birthday party for your grandchild.

And if you’re creating something big and kind of daunting, like a novel, keep the dream alive. We’ll do it together.
